You may specify the ticketing date on the airmanger on the last possible date. That ticketing can be done automatically (usually the day before departuer on a C-Flex).
If you want to ticket it earlier --> edit your booking and change your ticketing-date.
If you want to cancel --> you have to cancel it manually.
When you do nothing, it will be ticketed.
What you mean is a an "Booking option". They will book it and it NEEDS to be confirmed. Without confirmation it will not be ticketed and you have no cost.
You may book those options on swiss.com for fully-flexible swiss-flights.
You have 3 days to confirm it again, if not it is canceled (without costs).
With a Travelagent (or booking-office) you can do both:
When I do not call until XXXX please:
A) Book the ticket definitly
B) Cancel the ticket
Both is possible for a normal agent. When I booked most of my flights via a travelagent I have done that usually.
This is the service you pay your Ticket-Service-Charge for!
