I can arrive 15 minutes before flight time and get on the flight. It's got free parking for several days outside. On returning, my luggage is off the plane as fast as I am. I can be in my car in minutes and on the road.
Yes, I just flew into CLD, and it is a great airport. I think even for someone living close to SAN, the free parking plus the short lines would still make it a very attractive choice!
The downside was that for both outbound and return, the LAX-CLD/CLD-LAX flights were late 30-60 min. It seemed that the first flight of the day was fine, and then all subsequent ones were delayed. I don't know if it is normal or I just had bad luck.
