You could call and find out. However, you really need to decide what you want: the absolute cheapest seat possible or an upgrade to business class.

If you want the absolute cheapest seat, go with whatever you find.

If you want a business class upgrade, you're going to pay more anyway (because of the fare class requirements), so I'd suggest calling UA for an extra $10 to ensure that they have upgradeable space AVAILABLE at the time of booking. If they do have space, book the ticket and ask the agent to confirm the u/g at the same time. These seats can be used up quickly.

If they don't have upgradeable seats available at time of ticketing, then be ready to decide if the extra costs are worth a risk in waitlisting for the u/g; if not, thank the agent for his/her time and move on to plan B.
