But according to the booking rules on ITN Korean in C says "unlimited free stopvers permitted". And one the outbound trip I was able to make free changes and stops on the same itinerary. Can I book this and be confident I can stopver by calling the airline?
I'm not sure about the stopover, but I thought I'd add this in: apparently KE will provide free overnight accomodations for J/F passengers connecting through ICN with an overnight layover (only on revenue tickets; I called to check about this on an award ticket and was told no, which is fair enough.) Not sure if this counts for a stopover, but if you manage to book something with an overnight they may well do so even if it exceeds 24 hours... cheap way to check out Seoul for a night! I'd check with KE on that one of course.

You could try pricing it out on ITN as a multi-city with a stop in ICN and seeing if it stays as a single BKK-LAX trip under the same fare basis.
