I recently noticed that it was easier (and chaeper) to book a first class ticket from San Diego to Honolulu on Hawaiian Air, than to book the return ticket. In terms of getting a reaonably priced first class seat the SAN-HNL leg was easier to book at a reasonable fare and the HNL-SAN leg was more difficult to find.

Does anyone know a particular reason for this? The planes are pretty well full in both directions, so I am a little puzzled, unless HA blocks more of the seats on that leg for some reason.

Please enlighten me if you have an idea. Perhaps it was the time of year that made the difference.
