For pub food the closest alternative is right around the corner and is quite good. The King's Arm's is in Shepherd Market which you reach by going out of the Park Lane (Piccadilly side) turning left and going two blocks to White Horse St., and then making a left up the hill.

There are a couple of good (and interesting) restaurants in the Square, but for 9 and 12 YO's, I'm betting that the Kings Arms would be the most "fun". There is also a reasonably good local pizza/pasta place in the square. Don't remember the name.
