Yeah, it was only 15k in points each - I got the tip from someone else on this board back in Jan. I'm definitely not in the habit of using points for short-hauls (especially given the add on charges that AC tacks on), but it actually was a decent use of points, since at the time, the flights were a few hundred bucks. Just the HK departure tax of $18CAD per person, and no other booking fees/taxes/etc...
