I've got a photo from October (2005) that my Dad took and they don't show up in there. Oh wait, yes they do... I can just make them out . Wrong yet again! Sorry!!!

Anyway, I'm completely mistaken about how recently the red lines appeared - I must have taken much more notice the first couple of times I went there - 2002. Certainly weren't any red markings the time I scooped up hundreds of pachinko balls from the 'gutter'.

EDIT: thanks railroadtycoon! Looks like I've gotten a general answer as to when they appeared (BTW - I think they were filming Lost in Translation when I was there on my first visit, if so, the Typhoon that affected their shooting was the one that hit Tokyo on the 1st October 2002. I obviously didn't pay that much attention when I was scooping those balls in May 2003 after all )
