While it's convenient for those who live in LAX and SFO and have business first in JFK and then in LHR or NRT, how many folks is that, really? And for those that have exactly that, LGA is easier to get to from downtown NYC anyway, and chances are UA will have mainline service to keep the paid F and C pax happy for the short hop. Heck, it might even be a plus for those folks to route back through LAX/SFO so they can touch base with their offices before they head onwards to NRT.
Nobody but mileage runners would deliberately route LAX/SFO-JFK-NRT - not to mention they probably can't do it on an award ticket (indirect routing) and on a paid ticket the fare would be insane, so that would defeat the purpose of MRing in the first place.
