I would check with STA as to whether or not this is actually a "suggested intinery" or infact a set route that must be followed.

I had a RTW ticket last year and flew SYD-SCL then through SA. then to get to Costa Rica I flew LIM-MIA-SJO. Flights in Latin America are extremely expensive especially once they add on the gringo tax, I looked at flying LIM-SJO with TACA but it was going to cost AUD$1000 one way.

There is a great OW RTW initinery validator tool somewhere try doing a search for it.

There is no reason why you can't fly into India on BA then fly home on QF direct or CX and stop over in HKG.

Agree with Mwenenzi bestflights is an excellent site.
