Well, maybe they can be congratulated on
recognizing long-term loyalty, but certainly not on rewarding it. On the contrary.
Sure it sounds nice to be lifetime PE, but a little plastic card isn't enough for most people. There are so few benefits or advantages of being PE and these are applied so inconsistently that it is rather a moot point. We have:
- no or poor op up record since FB;
- no clear policy on op up priority;
- no differentiated upgrade capability;
- no improved availability of business awards;
- no separate platinum line for help, bookings, etc.;
- no 24 hour telephone availability;
- only marginal difference in award mile accrual;
- no Royal Wing or separate lounge facility;
- no access to lounge without Skyteam reservation;
- no standard invitation of 2 guests in lounge;
- no or inconsistent recognition on board;
- no easy capability for reserving the desired seats;
- ...
and the list goes on.
Five years ago I would have been extremely interested in getting to be FD PE for Life. Now that we have Flying Poo I find myself consciously choosing competitive airlines because I know that my Platinum status on AF KL doesn't mean diddly squat.
