I'm wondering if you might be better off writing rather than calling, because it will be easier to include the specifics about the plane incident, in an environment where they might think it less likely you'd be making up such a story because they could spend some time and verify it, rather than have to decide on-the-fly whether it's something you're making up.
I realize that the wizzing incident isn't directly related to the flight problems (which caused you to have to re-book elsewhere), but it does show that you're willing to go the extra mile to help UA out.
