I posted this in a previous review on the Hawaii forum.

At check in we were informed that we were booked into a parking lot view room (don't remember the category names). I enquired about any better rooms and was told that for $100 more per night we could get a partial ocean view. For ~$170 more per night, we could get a Mokapu room. When I said that I would keep the room that we booked, they said that because of our Gold status they have already upgraded us to a partial ocean. I didn't appreciate that they tried to get us to pay for an upgrade they already assigned anyways.

The room we were assigned was right next to the restaurant and people could look right into our room. At night there was signing and restaurant noises until almost midnight. We were jet lagged so had been going to bed a bit after sundown. The noise made it not very easy. Also, we were not able to open our window shades without people watching us. I mentioned these issues to the front desk, but they said said that they didn't have any other rooms to move us to.

This was in great contrast to the Grand Hyatt Kauai the night before, where they apologized that they didn't have anything nicer than an Ocean View Regency Club room and sent over a gift basket.

The grounds at the Renaissance don't look very well kept. The plantings were overgrown and the walkways not swept when we were there.

We requested some restaurant reservations from the concierge. They either forgot or didn't bother to call us back even though they said they would. After 20 minutes, I had to call them back to confirm that we were able to get the reservation.

The furnishings and soft goods are really worn out.

I'm happy that the place will be demolished soon to make way for the new condos. Some people love the property and staff. I'm not one of them.
