I'm not sure I understand your beef. They call it 1st class on a 2-class plane, I would imagine, because it sounds ritzier and more expensive. If you are upgrading from coach on a 2-class plane, you move to the next higher cabin, which is called 1st class. When upgrading from coach on a 3-class plane, the next higher cabin is called business-class.
