Of course it is. I do not mean to diminish the skills of pilots one iota. I would suggest, however, the dealing with situations like this is what pilots are trained to do. To a lesser extent, bus drivers have skills that help them avoid accidents and keep people alive (no, I'm not equating the two, but the principle is the same). Definitely true of firefighters and police officers as well. This is what those professions train for. Not the same with upper management. One is not "trained" to make those decisions. It's vision that makes a company thrive or fail (witness the genius of Steve Jobs, for example). That is what is being rewarded with these salaries.
