I live in montreal and I've never seen QB as a short for Quebec. It's always either QC or PQ.
I have to say that I really like Montreal, but then again that's where I live. I'm also in love with NYC and of course LA (well, the LA area).
I can understand why a lot of people like Quebec city; it's very European and different form other north american cities. Personally, though, having grown up in europe, I find it quite normal/boring.
