Ah, schedule changes. Don't ya love 'em?

Last January Mrs. Flyer 420 and I were on a SEA-NRT-BKK-BOM rt. We also were upgraded to BKK (Thai for the BKK-BOM-BKK segments). Sometime in late autumn UA and Thai both tinkered with timings giving us an illegal connection for our return.

UA's CSRs worked diligently to find an alternative; such as taking a later BKK connection via HKG, (but no upgrades); or BOM-DEL-BKK, not much use since the fog situation in DEL was making everyone miss connections.

Finally we settled on a BOM-DEL On Jet Airways, DEL-ICN on Asiana; then UA to NRT and home. We had coach on Asiana, but middle seat empty and fairly good leg room; did a quite nap at the great transit hotel at ICN, and then on to NRT and SEA, BUT somehow our upgrade seats, carefully chosen had gone away. I suspect only 1K MM status got us attention, but it is a reminder to all of us, whether on revenue or award travel--when someone helps you find a better connection, make certain that you don't lose advantages you had secured in the original booking.

As for separate tix beyond the waters, I just did that last month for SYD-CBR, and got caught out by the great Sydney fog event. QF was very reasonable--they have lots of flights on that route, but some folks to more obscure locations were hung up for a day or more. The QF transfer desk in the international arrivals was more readily acknowledged than described. Nest time I'd take a cab or bus over to the domestic side and seek help there. On the other hand the QF staff were great.
