But the other things the OP is not happy with.... Well, Ithink he is coming on a bit strong. The whole window shade thing. At this time of year, on an eastbound transatlantic, the sun barely goes down. Even though the cabin lights were turned on, it was most likely sunny and bright out well before this. That's why they ask us to put the shades down when it is dark out.... So when we fall asleep, and the sun comes up, it won't illuminate the cabin.
For the convenience of others or not? Well, I suppose we aren't there for the convenience of others. But common courtesy is a nice thing! (Example, I wouldn't put my bare feet up on the bulkhead wall. Sure, it would be more confortable for me, but it would not create a good ambiance for the plane).
Landing cards.... There are some on the plane who have never flown internationally. Little reminders (repeated as they may be) save a lot of time in the long run. I think it's great that the FA's were this helpful.

Re: shades eastbound: I totally agree with your comment about the sun - it's the westbound "day" flight that i don't understand (however this is discussed elsewhere so i'll let that go).
The landing cards - if the FAs came through a few times that's fair enough... it's the constant announcements that weren't really needed.
Forgot to add, the guy behind in 18A had one broken headset, and told the FA when they were being collected that it was broken and the FA said "oh just put it in the bag and we'll sort it later

Don't get me wrong - I love UA, and generally the flights were good - I just love channel 9 and it annoyed me having it taken away at one of the best stages of flight... if this upsets anyone i apologise
