I doubt that we will see the ICE train connecting the three airports, DB already reduced the ICE schedule to/from Cologne Airport and guys running an airport have to realise that one cannot let the tax payer invest hundreds of millions only to have a Fernbahnhof at an airport.
An Airport certainly has to have a railway connection, but I doubt that the demand is there for ICE trains.Let the folks get on a S-Bahn to QKL and connect there, like a hub and spoke system.
Same with Schoenefeld / BBI . The Fernbahnhof is expected to cost a crisp $ 800 million, unfortunately DB just cut ICE stops at Schoenefeld, because of insufficient demand ( and new tracks to the new main station )
Who needs an $ 800 million railway station at BBI ??
Concerning DUS and Airail, I doubt it will come. It is perfect from Cologne with 57 minutes from there , but DUS airport is located closer to the city and I fear LH would lose passengers to other airlines..
But I would love to have the DUS Airail option as well, especially since LH has a gap of 3 hours in their schedule on the DUS-FRA route...
