So - yes to follow up there is only one runway. Spots do you remember a day in December (1980 springs to mind - when the runway was blocked when the Big Orange turned too soon for the taxiway and became mired in the mud? I have flown and landed at the "spare" - and it is a disgrace that the No 2 airport in Britain only has one runway. I even remember the fight over whether LGW was in Surrey or in Sussex. Now just how sad is that?

Croydon in Australia or Canada? Still love to pass the Heron on the stand on the A23. My grandparents even drove down the runway at night by mistake.
I remember the Big Orange falling off. Then it was joined in later years by the 747SP in the same colours. The pairing were known as "Orange Juice (the -100?) and Orange Squash (SP)"
As for being in your mother's arms, surely you mean strapped to your mother's lap belt at this point
Now, I know that Schofs and I have flown from Redhill, but has anybody else flown from the farm strip just to the northwest of the airport (beyond the green fire training rig), serving the museum and the alternative strip just by Reigate school's playing fields. The hidden runway just off LGW is great to fly from in a helicopter or short field aircraft. Fly in from the north, point at LGW tower, turn right just before hitting it and in you go, missing the trees on approach. Keeps the controllers awake in the tower.
