I think the SQ tried to take off on a closed runway, rather than use the taxiway on that occasion IIRC. The only reason I remember is that they'd tried to do something similar shortly before at HKG, when they'd gone to the northern runway (at that point complete, but not commissioned), and it was only ATC doing a visual check before clearing them for TO who prevented that... ie, ATC couldn't see the plane on the southern runway which was insisiting it was there and ready to TO! No-one could ever work out how they had managed to find a course which avoided all the barriers closing off the northern runway for exactly that reason
