Thanks for the replies. Even though I have only carry on and am not against a sprint with baggage and/or paying a bit for a short cab ride, I think based on this info I am going to try to standby for the earlier flight that is currently showing as full (arr SAN at around 8:30). The 6-ish LAX dep is just too early. Any other suggestions would be helpful.
