It is not just about "saving a few minutes." It is about a lot of other things, like:
1. Not letting the airlines damage or soil my checked luggage (which happened to me several times in the past)
2. Not having my luggage mishandled and delayed (something that happens with shocking regularity to my co-workers who check their luggage)
3. Not having things stolen out of my bags by TSA thieves (something that has happened to many Flyertalkers)
4. Not having our luggage locks cut off and discarded by TSA (who regularly destroys and discards even TSA-approved locks)
5. Not having to line-up at check-in to check luggage. (It's not just about saving time upon arrival, it's about saving time at departure too.)
