While your plan is perfectly legit, it shows a touching faith in an airline's bag transfer system which I would be reluctant to go along with.
There are also frequent transfer busses from the front of each terminal to the other terminals. That is another option which would let you check in your bags at the right terminal and might marginally increase the probability that your bags were on your flight, admittedly at some increase in hassle.
