There are things that must be done, after the door closes, for a 10am flight to leave ONTIME at 10am.
Unfortunately, some airlines (UA is particularly bad at this, but from what I understand others do it too) sometimes close the door waaaay before departure (15 minutes or more). The airlines should fix the schedules if a 10 am departure really means they're going to push back at 9:45!
