I'd say it's not a problem-- far less so than a seat w/o a shell-- like current AA-seats on 777/762, etc. And we've discussed the "seat grab" from behind which is now a thing of the past (or even overly aggressive back-of-seat-pocket-grabbers.) I felt like I didn't have any sense whatsoever that there was anybody even seated behind me.
Also, there are two very skinny magazine trays on top of each-other right where the person's feet would make contact with the seat housing-- then hard material and a space w/ gears, etc, then more housing, then your seat cushion. So, I think it's safe from all but intentional seat kickers.
