Classic members can also buy up to 10,000 MR points a year for £150 (£15 / 1,000). Despite the gumph on the Amex website, which says you can only buy to top up an award, Amex has told me that you can just buy them and get them added to your account at any point - they don't need to be moved out straight away.

This is the only way of buying BMI miles (1.5p each). Not sure if Virgin let you buy directly from them or whether the Amex MR route is also the only way of buying those.
