I started a thread on this topic quite a while back. I also talked with the DL website support people several times until I gave up when it became clear nothing was going to change on this front.
I haven't looked at it lately, but in the past you could only view the seat availability
after ticket purchase. One wonders if someone at DL believed it's easier to fill a long-haul flight if pax don't realize they'll be stuck in a center seat in back until after the credit card has been charged.
