When our train finally did depart, it was rammed, no seat reservation, so grabbed a seat - only to find that it is in the carriage that GNER is required to have one of on every train in summer, where the air con isn't working

No point trying to move, no more seats... They did give us free water (in standard) 1.5 hours into the journey.... probably not good to pull up into York with a carriage full of mummified, desiccated passengers.
I thought these problems only happened in autumn and winter with "..the wrong kind of leaves..." and "...the wrong kind of snow..." ?
