For transpacific flights, day or night, most passengers are going to sleep a good part of the flight, so the window shades will be closed anyway. Flying day or night doesn't matter for me because in either case I'm a poor sleeper on airplanes. So I look for flights offering a decent selection of inflight entertainment plus I bring along my own DVD player, mp3 player and a good book as well.
As for 6am arrivals, I actually like 'em. My TG nonstop from BKK arrives at JFK at 6am. There aren't many arriving international flights at that time, so immigration and baggage claim are a snap. I find that staying awake through most of the day that I get home (althought I do go to bed on the early side

) helps me to much more quickly recover from the jet lag.
