Anyone had a problem with small tools in a carryon bag?

I'm booked ATL-SMF, and plan to take small jewelry making tools in my carryon. Only one has an actual cutting blade (less than 1/2 "), the others are pliers type. All are less than 5" overall. I know small tools are now permitted, but I'm still concerned they might be confiscated by an overzealous screener. Other than putting the tool bag in plain sight in a bin, is there anything else I can do to avoid a hassle?
