One thing to consider is that AS is a mileage partner with AA, NW, DL, and CO. So staying with AS may give you more airline choices for continental US flights than any of these others (AA is OneWorld, while NW, DL, and CO are SkyTeam).

None of these covers any Star Alliance airlines like UA, US, or AC.
