If I were you and hadn't changed the decision to go I'd carry a copy of the managers' personal email regarding the jr. suite as a just-in-case at check-in.
Personally, I'd cancel inasmuch as I would miss being able to chill-out at the pools.
Last time we were on the Big Island mornings were for us dedicated to seeing the sights and mid-afternoons to dinnertime were for lounging at the pool.
Unfortunately canceling is not an option at this point. Using Island Hopper reward and have already booked interisland airfare to Oahu, so we'll just grin and bear it and hope we get some nice upgrades and amenities for staying with them through the construction. Either way we'll be spoiled the next half of the trip at the JW Marriott Ihilani at Ko'Olina.
Trip to Waikoloa is August 10-13.
