This last April, I had one trip YYC-JFK-LAX-DEN-MIA-YYZ all on individually booked itineraries. No troubles at all.
Last November I was travelling with 2 colleagues on one way tickets from MDW to BHM and all 3 of us received the SSSS. First and only time any of us have ever received it, so I am positive the fact we were on one way tickets were the cause of the problem.
