Capture of SH effect on DALPA contract negotiations

Given the events unfolding yesterday and today in Iraq (the capture of Saddam), I now believe DALPA will be more incented to reach an agreement with Delta, sooner than later. All because the odds of the GOP winning a commanding majority in the House and Senate have just improved. This is a major negative for DALPA since their current contract expires in 2005.

There is a much greater likelihood that the pilots will reach a contract extension (through 2008) within the next 2-3 months which mandates immediate pay concessions but which also includes snap-back provisions to partially regain previous pay levels as Delta returns to profitability.

The union doesn't have the same wiggle room today that it thought it had yesterday.
