No, I did not research -- so this may be incorrect. But I believe SWA keeps the $50 re-issue a bit low key, do they not? Yes, it is in the FAQ, but not in the "main info".
But the point is on other airlines, one can keep miles 3 years with no activity, and forever with one "punch" every 3 years.
If the intent is to not increase spoilage, then why the 1 year limit? As I said, with cap. controls and short schedule windows, one can intend to use an Award, then find they cannot as no seats. So the 1 year period tough for many.
