Perth is easily accesible by rail or bus. Going on to Inverness from Perth is also easy by rail or bus. Culloden is accesible by local bus service or by taxi - it's not very far out of Inverness.
Castles - my favorites have been in Sterling, Dunnator castle, a long walk or short taxi ride from Stonehaven - also easily accesible by public transport. If you go over to Skye, Dunvegan Castle is also accesible by public transport. Torosay Castle on Mull is a short walk from the ferry crossing in Craignure coming across from Oban.
