Because it tastes like cardboard if you do it that way!!

Seriously, we hit Subway for lunch about once a month. Garlic bread, roast beef, jalapeno cheese - toast it at this point - then throw on all the veggies, extra jalapenos, and that chipotle mayo stuff. That at least has a little flavor, but I know the garlic butter and the chipotle mayo have quite a few calories in them. Oh, and when we do this, it's usually Tuesday when footlongs are on sale. So no, I'm not eating just a wimpy little 6-inch sub.

Of course, I usually go to the track for a speed workout on Tuesday evenings, so I *do* burn some of it off...

And while no exactly on-topic, most cities have much better sub restaurants (either mom & pop delis or local chains) than Subway. For the above-mentioned trip through KC, there are several Planet Subs that do a much wider variety of mighty tasty subs. Again, I won't call it healthfood, but it's both more flavorful than and slightly less evil than a greasy burger & fries from a bland megachain.
