Depends how you interpret my use of "silliness" - you certainly don't have to clear US Immigration in YVR .

Lack of interlining is not good. Yet another sign BA are heading towards LCC territory. The solution is to transfer responsibility for the bag at the point of transfer; the (full service) airlines need to get together and figure out how to do this, so that if the first airline can prove it has transferred the bag to a second, then a subsequent loss before arrival at the final destination should have no come back against the first carrier.
