If you are flying in Tango Plus, you get a minimum of 500 miles per segment, same as most US carriers. Delta used to be higher thoguh - not sure if that is still the case.

The problem is at 1,000 miles round trip it takes a long time to accumulate serious miles. If you can fly enough on AC to get to 35,000 Status miles in a calendar year on Ac, you qualify for elite. One of the optional benefits (you get to order benefits a la carte) is 50% bonus miles on all AC flights.

for many people who do not fly that often, credit cards are the way to build up serious miles. Not sure if you can get an Aeroplan CC in the US though.
