Unfortunately, this reminds of a muslim colleague's experience, when a group from the office was flying to Washington DC to a conference. We were talking about which flights we were scheduled on (it was a large group, leaving at different times) and how early we planned to leave for the airport on Thursday. Our friend (who was born in Kenya but now has a Canadian passport - he's lived here for 20 years) said, good humouredly, I'll be leaving for the airport on Wednesday at noon, if anyone wants to join me for heavy-duty screening. Another colleague was turned back when he was trying to fly to Washington for a meeting (he was born in Yemen but was adopted at birth by Canadians). He was a government lawyer, for goodness sake, on his way to a meeting with the US government.
