While this is not intended to be the 127th "Shure v QC" thread, I'm surprised at your experience. I got off a Dash-8 Q400 yesterday, a fairly noisy thing which needs a loud PA (but much quieter than the 1-2-3 series) - and when one FA was making the announcement, the other actually leaned over and tapped me gently on the shoulder to listen. Too engrossed in the story about the Audi A8's award winning audio system. (maybe that's what you need, Mr Meatman

It seems as though you weren't getting a good seal, because very little gets through a well-inserted pair of Shures.
