I have an AA award reservation for 3 on hold from DCA to Europe (open jaw) for October, and will be bringing a 4th family member, my 4 month old son. I have been informed that I must pay the usual taxes, reservation fee (because I used 1-800 CSR to reserve) and 10% of full fare ticket (of same itenerary) for him... just to sit on my lap!

That comes out to $236.50 ($57.00 taxes + 15.00 booking fee + 164.50 fee)... for him to sit on my lap! What's with this 10% full-fare fee??? Is this new? Is it only AA's policy? or all U.S. airlines? Is it because I'm traveling to Europe?

Any explanation would help! AA reps do not know the answers themselves. Thanks in advance for all your help.



BTW: This "free" trip to Europe is costing me $452.50 and 120,000 miles for 3 and one 4-month old. Not really free is it?
