I didn't complain when I received the miles, but you've got the facts wrong (at least in my case). I was stranded in a foreign country when the catering strike started, my return flight was cancelled - as were most (all?) BA flights for a few days. Couple that with the fact that all the other airlines suddenly had full flights, and the disruption caused to me was significantly greater than missing out on a salad.
