Yes, I agree with you . . . BA should have offered something to the OP for the inconvenience of a broken seat and inoperable IFE. No one, including me, thinks the OP should receive a huge chunk of miles.
But, my comment referred to the fact that FT's in this forum certainly did not refuse the 50K or 100K "gift" of miles for the lack of a salad or fish during the catering fiasco (irrelevant that they didn't complain first or ask for compensation before receiving said miles in their account).
So, IMO, it is perfectly reasonable for the OP to have expected something more from BA than a form letter because he paid for a seat to get him from point A to point B, and that seat was defective.
