Yes, it works well generally and every hotel I've dealt with in major Chinese cities does the same. However, there are some exceptions in regards to how well it works (or didn't work). I've often used a map to indicate where I've wanted to go, and that's worked rather well too, except in those cases where the driver's eyes seemed a bit week.

... and there's that first trip from the airport to the hotel that makes for some interesting tales too.
