In fact the E seat really is as wide as the A and C although admittedly you do lose the extra "newspaper space".

In reality I don't think you would be able to refuse an Operational upgrade (as long as it is for operational reasons!). These are done because they have to be done to fit everyone in and in reality you have to sit where you are told by the crew. Either way, not a bad situation to be in!!
