I'm going to the UK twice between now and the New Year. I've always liked it and there are some ways to save money...

1) Don't eat at hotels unless it's included in the room price. Why? Example-Hilton London Kensington, Cheeseburger, 15 pounds. No thank you.

2) Supermarkets are a great way to save money and eat healthier. Also the ethnic restaurants tend to be cheaper and better (think Indian, mmm, spicy).

3) Buy an Underground Day Travelcard. Much cheaper than paying point to point.

4) Shop around online for hotels. It may take a while, but you can usually find a good deal-sometimes staying a few tube stops out of the city center.

5) Don't rent a car in London.

6) Speaker's Corner is free (Sundays only), and is more entertaining than most things you will ever see.

7) Tate Modern Art Gallery was free a year or two ago (probably still is). Make a donation in the donation box, though.

8) Skip the tourist trap stuff and spend more time walking.

9) Harrods is nice, just don't go overboard buying stuff. The food gallery is good.

I could probably make 100 more suggestions, but this should start you off. Yes, the UK is pricey, but it is still a worthy place to visit and most people there are very friendly and helpful.
