My aging palmOne Treo 600 calls it, I think, "wireless mode off." Since it's a PDA (with camera) in addition to being a phone, when I go somewhere the phone can't be used or wouldn't work anyway (i.e. inside a cave, on a plane, or at certain workplaces... not all at the same time, one hopes) I can save battery life by telling it to just not even try to communicate with anything.

I suspect the Treo 650 and 700w would have the same feature.
