I've found as to certain properties with a multitude of rates covering, say, seven days, that if one tries to get one reservation covering all seven days, you are unlikely to get the best rate on each individual day, and are likely to get the default rate for all seven days, which is usually one of the higher rates at the property. For example, I want the government rate for all seven days, but it is only available Sun, Weds, and Fri. A AAA rate is available on Monday, and a senior rate on Thurs. A package rate is available on Tuesday, and a museum package on Saturday. All of these rates are better than the only rate which shows up for seven nights, but none are available for 7 consecutive nights. I've never had a property object to booking the rates on separate reservations for each consecutive night, and when I call the property in advance, I'm told that they will combine the different reservations in the property's computer so there won't be a problem. Then, when I look up my reservation(s) on marriott.com, it usually shows as one reservation, with a different specific rate for each night. (This sometimes varies with the property). I've never had a property tell me that there was anything wrong with this.
